Norfolk, Virginia – Getting There and Getting Home

We decided to make the trek out to Virginia in our very own Cessna 4 seater.  Caleb was excited about the flight, I was a bit nervous – a 3 year old and a 12 month old in the plane for a 5 hour flight (give or take depending on the weather).

Unfortunately for us, we had a head wind.

Zoe was less than thrilled when we experienced turbulence on our decent into Yeager Airport.

Our planned pit stop was Yeager Airport in Charleston West Virginia.  After about 2 hours in the airplane it was great to stretch our legs a bit.

The approach into Yeager.

While this picture hardly does it justice, the airport had this elaborate (catwalk like) setup for it’s runway approach lights.

The remainder of the approximately 5 hour flight took what seemed like forever.  But after about 5.5 total hours of flight time, our headwind seemed to pick up just a bit, we landed safely at Norfolk International Airport.

Home bound

Beautiful view of the mountains from about 8000 feet.

We took a slightly different path on the way home and flew over an airport nestled on top of a mountain.

We made another stop at Yeager Airport to stretch our legs and check the weather (it was unfortunately raining in Indiana and Ohio).

Luckily the wind was in our favor on the trip home and we made it back to Columbus in less than 5 hours and Caleb even got to log an instrument approach with his entire family in the plane.
