Allen County: Fort Wayne Tin Caps
Our quick trip to Allen County to help celebrate Cousin Joel’s Birthday, didn’t highlight all Fort Wayne has to offer, so I thought I would blog about our visit to see the Fort Wayne Tin Caps take on the Lansing Lugnuts on Sunday, August 7.
In full disclosure, Caleb didn’t join Isaac and I on this adventure. No hate mail please, Caleb was on a business trip and since we’d already visited Allen County we thought we’d bend the rules a bit. Isaac and piled into the car, yes the car, on Sunday right after lunch and headed to Cousin Joel’s house (for the second weekend in a row). Right after we arrived at Cousin Joel’s house, it started raining which meant the game was delayed by about 45 minutes.
The whole crew (Isaac & I and Cousin Joel, Aunt Wendi, & Uncle Mark, and Grandma, Grandpa, and Aunt Natalie) headed to the game and got there about 10 minutes before the game started.
I was impressed by the stadium. A huge, air conditioned gift shop, lots of food booths with a wide variety of food, a bunch of pay to play inflatable kid games, and even water fountains for the kiddos to run through.
On the way to our seats, Isaac and I stopped for a picture with Johnny, a larger than life bobble head doll.
It was pretty hot on Sunday so Isaac enjoyed his first snow cone. Luckily, mama got to enjoy a few bites, too.
The view from our seats.
Just as predicted, Isaac and I only spent about 20 minutes in our seats. We spent a good deal of time playing in the air conditioned gift shop, a welcome break from the afternoon heat. Isaac got a huge kick out of the batting helmets. We strolled along the entire stadium and played a bit in the grass seating in the outfield.
Amazing Isaac did sit in Grandma’s lap for a few minutes before we headed out (I believe in the 6th inning). Unlike the rabid baseball fan that Cousin Joel is, I don’t think Isaac watched any of the game; although it appears that Isaac is watching the game, he’s actually fixated on a balloon.
Even though Isaac and I didn’t watch any of the game, it was a fun afternoon with my family. …and a great value at $8 a ticket.
PS. The Tin Caps won the game.
