Decatur County: Park and Courthouse

On Saturday August 6th, we ventured to Decatur County for a few hours to explore some of goodies for the county.  Decatur County’s seat is Greensburg, and their fame is the courthouse tree.

From our house to downtown Greensburg is about a 35 minute drive, so we headed off in the afternoon.  Before leaving, I noted the presence of a park along our route in the county, so decided we would stop there first to give Isaac something fun to do.

First, we stopped at the corner of the park, and played on a bridge.

Isaac enjoyed the ducks, and thoroughly chased them all back into the water.  We came upon a large group of geese as well, but I kept him away as they were much less frightened of him and looked a bit menacing.

We got back in the car and rounded the corner of the park to the playground.

The park is very near the Greensburg airport, and they have a pretty large skydiving business that goes on there.  By luck, we caught a few jumpers.

After we were done playing at the park, we went over to the jumpsite to see if we would spot some more parachutists, but we didn’t spot any more in the sky.

We then headed to downtown Greensburg, which has that old time downtown feel.

And the famous courthouse tree:

We drove back by the park and airport to see if we could spot and more jumpers, but didn’t see any, so we called it an afternoon and drove home.
