Jefferson County: Clifty Falls State Park

Caleb and I have been talking about going to Clifty Falls State Park for a few years now.  We decided that Memorial Day weekend would be the perfect opportunity.

Big Clifty Falls:

We arrived at the park just after 10:00 and opted to hike trail 7.  Trail 7 is listed at 1.25 miles and moderately rugged; we wanted to see some waterfalls and it seemed like the best option with a 3.5 year old that we wanted to hike a majority of the trail.  Amazingly Isaac did great hiking; he needed a bit of an incentive (Teddy Grahams) to make it the last little bit of trail 7 and just a bit of help from dad climbing the stairs.

After finishing trail 7, we decided it was time for lunch.  If I would have been better prepared, I would have packed a picnic lunch but alas so we headed in to town and to the golden arches for a special treat.

After lunch, the kiddos seemed refreshed so we headed back into the park.  We had already decided to check out the tunnels when we learned they were closed due White Nose Syndrome].  We still opted to hike a bit of Trail 5.  We were able to hike up to the close to the mouth of the tunnel.  If bats don’t completely freak you out, the tunnel looks like it would be worth a closer look.  We walked just a bit further up trail 5 before deciding to call it a day.
