Clark County: Fall of the Ohio

On an unseasonably warm fall Sunday afternoon we gathered up a few friends and headed to Falls of the Ohio State Park.  The fall is a great time to visit this park because the river levels are lower so more of the fossil beds are exposed.

First off was a picnic lunch near the Fixed Wier Dam.

Then it was off to the fossil beds near the Interpretive Center.  The kids enjoyed hunting for fossils, running around, playing in the water and climbing.

Near the trail, there were a few shale piles where you could uncover more fossils.

We easily spent 2.5 hours at the park and didn’t even make it to the Interpretive Center.
