Harrison County: Indiana Caverns

I came across an article about Indiana Cavernsa year or two ago and thought it would be a great adventure for Harrison County. So we loaded the kids up on Labor Day weekend and headed down to Corydon, the first capital of Indiana.

The first thing we saw noticed when we arrived was Mr. Tooth the cat.

We ordered are tickets online but they don’t assign you a tour group/tour time until you arrive; so after we checked in, we wondered around a bit. >We played with Mr. Tooth, took some pictures, checked out the trail, and browsed the gift shop. Luckily we went on a non-busy day so we only waited about 25 minutes for our tour.

Our tour guide rounded up our group of about 20 and we headed downstairs to watch a movie about the Binkley Cave System. After the 15 minute movie we headed down into the cave. >Along the way, our tour guide shared interested facts and did a great job of keeping the kids in the group engaged. The culmination of the tour is a boat ride. After the boat ride, we headed back they way we came, learning more fun facts. And each of the kids on the tour got a chance to be the tour guide.

The kids loved being in the cave and occasionally Isaac will ask if we can go back; although, it might be because he wants the 100 bill wallet he discovered in the gift shop.  All joking aside, it’s a great activity for a day where the weather isn’t great.
