Acadia National Park

National Park #3

Our trip to Acadia National Park all came about because we had a Southwest credit that was set to expire in the summer of 2018. We chose Acadia because it’s somewhere we never thought we would go. We’re glad we gave it a chance because it’s probably our favorite national park.

Our first hike in Acadia was the Jordan Pond Path. I cannot say enough about this 3.4 mile; there’s boardwalk, rocks to scramble over, mountains in the distance and there’s the pond.

Our first stop on day 2 was a trip to the land bridge at low tide. There are trails on Bar Island but with lots to other to dos on our list, we just explored the land bridge.

Next stop, Bubbles Divide Trail. The entire purpose of this trail was to visit Bubble Rock (a rock precariously placed by a glacier) and attempt to push it off the cliff.

But the view was completely spectacular, too!

And the kids are pretty cute, too

Our next stop was Cadillac Mountain. I briefly entertained the idea of hiking one of the Cadillac Mountain trails to the top but with the bus system not up and running for the season, the logistics just didn’t work out.

Our final destination for the day was Thunder Hole. However, Thunder Hole is best experienced at high tide so we made decide to take a quick detour and visit Sand Beach.

We drug the kids away from the beach and walked Ocean Path to Thunder Hole. I never did hear the thunder high that the high tide usually produces at Thunder Hole, nevertheless, we spent at least an hour hanging out and watching the waves.

Our last stop of the day was the land bridge at high tide.

Day 3 started with Great Head Trail. This shorter trail touted stunning views and some rock scrambling and did not disappoint.

Instead of collecting the kids’ Junior Ranger badges at Hulls Cove Visitor’s Center, we decided to check out the Sier de Monts Nature Center. Unfortunately, the Nature Center was not open on this particular day but we did stroll through the Wild Gardens of Acadia and took in a beautiful view of The Tarn.

Before saying good-bye to Acadia we stopped in at the visitor’s center to collect Junior Ranger badges.

We definitely recommend Acadia and hope to visit again!
