Carroll County – Wabash and Erie Canal
Our last stop on our Memorial Day Weekend hiking trip was the Wabash and Erie Canal.
At the very last minute, we decided to make a small detour and stop at the Wabash and Erie Canal. We weren’t quite sure what to expect with the lack of planning but we just happened to arrive about 30 minutes before the pioneer village closed for the day.
We enjoyed spending a little bit of time in the one room school house. Our teacher did a great job of describing a typical school day in the time of pioneers. She had books and slates and lots of stories.
The kids also enjoyed playing with the some of the toys from the 19th century.
Replica canal boat rides are available, too. Unfortunately, we arrived just as the last canal boat ride of the day was leaving.
Isaac’s favorite was the old car. The owner was kind enough to let him sit in it and honk the horn!
